It was a sauna, but still beautiful!
It was time for me to make a return trip to Devils Lake Stare Park located in Sauk County, WI between Baraboo and Merrimac. However, I didn’t realize it also would be the hottest most humid day of the year. Normally I would hike up the West Bluff trail, but at 6 pm and so much sweat just from the sheer humid heat, made the climb unbearable. So I walked the Quartzite trail along the lake instead. Still very beautiful with all of the rocks along the lake.
I had no idea that there was a huge store full of shirts, home decor and concessions on the North Side of the park. Along with an ice cream cafe and a rental building. It’s a hopping place to be in the middle of the summer. Really cool vibe!
I’ll be back when the humidity isn’t 90% with 90 degree weather to go on that West Bluff Trail hike. It’s truly spectacular at the top. If you’re visiting the Madison area, make this State Park a must see. Also take the free car ferry in Merrimac on Hwy 113, it’s not only fun, it cuts the time in half to travel to the park by car.
Stay cool this summer!
Peace,
Scott
