Door County trip with Mom

Mom and I at Door County Candle Company in Carlsville

Love that Mom and I have started a tradition of going to Door County back in 2019. We usually go once in the spring and once in the summer. Last year we did in the summer and then the fall. This was our Summer trip. Got a really nice deal on a wonderful hotel called Lull-Abi. It doesn’t look like much from the road, but the rooms have all been remodeled and it was so comfortable. It was nice to be right in the middle of Egg Harbor too.

Three day’s in the Door is a nice period of time. I know people that go for a whole week. It’s nice to live less than 3 hours from the Door (we call it the “Door” around here…lol), so we can take two trips a year and enjoy the different seasons. Fall is a nice time too, but it’s very busy during the first two weeks of October for Pumpkin Patch fest and the Harvest. So many people from Illinois call it their vacation home during those two weekends. Hotel rates sky rocket during this time as well. But it’s a fun time. I personally like it when it’s a little less busy and take time to relax and enjoy the fresh air. It’s quite magical. The food is absolutely amazing!

We ate at the Chef’s Hat in Ephraim the first night and got a nice table out on the patio facing the beach front. We also got to dine at Ship Wrecked in Egg Harbor the second night. It’s always a great standby. On the last day we ate at the Summer Kitchen (Mom’s favorite). They make all their soups home made and you get a cup with every meal. We end up taking soup home every time as well. The decor is very Australian county side/shabby chic. Just a great place to relax and enjoy good food.

We always make a stop at Lautenbach Orchard Market and get home made apple and cherry pies. Some of the best in the peninsula. We also stopped at Door County Candle Company and purchased some more Ukrainian candles where 100% of the profits go to a Ukrainian Charity. They have raised well over 800k and get volunteers from all over to help with production. It’s so amazing! We also went to a Island Lavender and enjoyed seeing the Lavender farm and store on site. Lavender is grown all over the peninsula and on Washington Island.

Enjoying the sunsets is the best way to spend time relaxing in Door County. We got to see one in Egg Harbor and in Ephraim. In Sister Bay we stopped at Skal a Swedish store that’s affiliated with Al Johnson’s a famous Swedish restaurant in the peninsula. So much fun to see the goats graze on the grass roof.

Where is a place you like to visit seasonally to get away from home? Have you ever traveled to Door County or some place similar and made it a tradition to return each year? Please share below in the comments.

Thanks for allowing me to share my life with you. Door County is one of the most magical places to visit in Wisconsin. The energy alone is worth a visit even for a day.

Be well and happy camping!
