Wisconsin Fair Day!
It had been since 2022, I had been to the fair…so it was time! Perfect day of total sunshine and 75 degrees fahrenheit. I had asked our card making club friends if they would be up for this adventure and Jane and Judy were free to make it a day with me. So excited.
When I was a kid, my best summer memories were usually at the State Fair. I’m not sure why, cause it’s in the heart of West Allis, WI, which has never been my favorite town in the Milwaukee Metro area, but there is something about these fair grounds that comes to life and it feels like it’s own special city for 10 days every August. Usually to musical acts are county western style music, so I don’t usually go to the fair for entertainment, other than people watching…lol. Summer Fest along the Lake Michigan is the music festival of the city in late June and early July. For me, I go for the agriculture hall activity and see all the food that’s made in Wisconsin. Every year I go, I always get a baked potato. It’s a tradition. Most people get Cream Puffs, not being a huge dairy fan, it’s not my jam. Don’t get me wrong, they are good, but boy are they messy! Jane had a Cream Puff this year. Judy and I just watched her eat it.
The Feeling Good wheel has been a center point of the fair for over a decade or two. Was a little windy to get the nerves to find myself safe in there. I did want to ride the sky liner, but with the three of us and only two to a lift, wouldn’t have worked well. We did spend a short minute in the Expo hall looking for those fun appliance demos. The main reason why I own a VitaMix is because of the Wisconsin State Fair. We also noticed that Larry was still facilitating demos for the amazing peeler and pairing knives. This guy has been doing demos at the fair since I was 7 years of age. it’s incredible!!! He had to be close to 90! Still selling kitchen fun at the fair.
The other place we enjoy going to is the Grand Champion Hall which is like a 4H hall. Lots of quilts, crafts, baked goods, flowers, bonsai, place settings, & photos entered in for a statewide competition just of the fair. Of course I like the crafts and quilts the most! But I still find that part of the fair extremely import to visit. I want the creatives peeps to get recognized for their hard work! Also, that hall has the best A/C at the entire park…on a hot day, it works!
Finally, it’s time for food! I space myself out so I can still sit and relax at the fair to have some fun food. I’m not the kind of fair goer that has to have everything deep fried on a stick…I save that for the the Minnesota State Fair (the most wholesome state fair in the country..lol). Judy mentioned that Saz’s has the best food at the fair, so we went with that! They had a private outdoor dining area away from all the bands and general fair sounds a farm smells. It was a delight! Nice to sit down too!
We did spend some time looking at the Alpacas and the new born farm animals. It was fun to see families in delight as a chic was breaking out of its egg shell! The simple things in life that delight are the BEST! I was having fun watching the guinea pigs and ducklings run around in their cages.
Well, that’s a wrap at the fair. Didn’t have time to look at all of the animals nor explore the midway. I’ll save that for next year.
What’s your favorite thing to do at your State or County fair? What fair is it that you attend? Leave a comment below, I love to hear from you!
Until my next post, have an awesome summer! I’ll be doing a camping trip really soon!
Hugs,
