Camp Quilt
Welcome back to my blog of camping, hiking, quilting and just enjoying nature! Today I had two projects, one completed and one started. Also, my buddy Mark came to visit for the afternoon and we had lunch, took a long hike and enjoyed a campfire. It was very nice. Mark essentially has taught me how to camp, which was a skill I had no idea about prior.
I started my morning with piecing a Churn Dash quilt block which is technically my first nine patch block. I think it turned out well and the points turned out almost perfect. LOL…. I just had a hard time with keeping the seams open after piecing the block together. I’ve come to realize I much prefer pressing my seams to the dark vs pressing them open. See my photos of the Churn Dash block.
The Churn Dash quilt block will be apart of The Quilting Camper Trademark. I’m working on a logo that will include it as well. This will be a flag I post at my campsites. I will back the block and then bind it when I get home. I might even Embroider the name on it. Haven’t decided on that yet. Many campers mark their sites with a plaque with their name or a sign. Similar to when quilt block are on a barn front, I thought it would be great to place it as a sign post to camp site, when I do my quilting camp retreats.
My buddy Mark came out to visit for the afternoon and took this awesome photo of the campsite at night! What do you think? Is this a place you’d like to retreat to? I sure do.
Mark and I, after returning from a nice after noon lunch at a nearby Panera, we took a hike around Quarry Lake and started to walk down a newly paved trail. I’ll have to come back sometime to complete that. With already having 2 miles into the hike and 10k steps in for the day, we had to cut that hike short at 2.5 miles. Harrington is such a beautiful place this time of year. See some photos on that hike below.

Of course what’s wonderful day of camping without a perfect campfire in my New SoloStove Ranger 2.0! Mom presented me with this early birthday present (which is toward the end of June), so I could enjoy it on this camping trip. Love it!
For the evening, I decided to get started on a Fat Quarter Shop pattern called the Jolly Bar Jump. It’s featured on their YouTube channel and I purchased the kit from them over a year ago. I intended it for a camp quilt retreat. It’s simple, but still a lot of blocks to make. I just love sewing with the crickets and frogs chirping at night. So relaxing!
I filmed a quick video for my reels and stories on Instagram which I might turn into a YouTube video. Not sure yet. I couldn’t get my main camera set up on location easily due to the variations of heat and damp. Either way enjoy the photos below of my piecing, pressing and sewing below. It was super relaxing making 20 blocks. I’m hoping to do the other 20 before leaving the campsite Friday.

Once again friends, thanks so much for taking the time to read my blog. Sorry to say I have to take down today, but I might have sometime left to assemble a few more blocks. Please check out the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube video for this simple, but fun pattern.
Farewell for now from Camp Quilt and The Quilting Camper! Please leave a comment below about a project you’re working on. Also, are you planning any camping trips this summer? I’d love to hear about it!
Enjoy every moment and Big Hugs,
Scott aka The Quilting Camper
