Afternoon hike at High Cliff!

Getting ready for, what I thought was going to be an easy 2 mile hike…turned out to be a 200 ft climb. I got my exercise this afternoon!

After a nice visit to the Quilt Shop in Oakfield, I thought taking a little drive north along Lake Winnebago would be a wonderful thing. About an hour from Oak Field, High Cliff State Park is located in a small town called Sherwood, WI. Being only about 20 minutes from Appleton, I’d thought I could get a dinner and a little shopping in after my hike.

What a beautiful wooded area built where a Lime Kiln was once used. With the Kiln’s remains along with a beach at Lake Winnebago and lots a beautiful rock formations, this State Park is highly sought after. There is a boat marina and family large golf course too. If you are ever up near Appleton or Green Bay, WI, this park is a must see!

The photos below were taken along my hike on the Lime Kiln trail. I’ve done the Red Bird trail once before, but I wanted to just get 2 miles in. I had no idea that I would be climbing up rock stairs to get to the second half of the trail going back. That’s where I burned about 700 calories. It was well worth the workout, but be warned that the hillsides of these trails are steep. Walking sticks would be beneficial.

What a great place to spend an afternoon and have a picnic. The campsites are amazing too. Wisconsin is loaded with amazing parks because of all the areas where the Glacier didn’t hit.
