A Fall Day in the Door
Door County, WI is a destination for so many of us who reside in Wisconsin and Illinois. It’s a little get away from a world we have become to accustomed too because of force of habit. Once in a while we need to escape to a place where the energy is calm and the focus is all on nature. It’s a place where people plan their day around a sunset in one of the popular towns like Ephraim, Sister Bay, Fish Creek and Egg Harbor. The Hwy System is simple…42 on the Bay side of the lake and 57 on the Lake Michigan shoreline. They both eventually meet up in Sister Bay. The last traffic light is located at the tip of Sturgeon Bay and after that its just traffic signs. It’s technically an Island, but I just know it as the Door. It’s a place for physical restoration, creative inspiration, nature connection, fun shopping, and amazing places to eat. Lavender farms are one of the joys to experience as well as the fall colors when they change this time of year. Don’t forget about cherry picking season too!
I make a trip with mom one to two times a year for a special getaway. Otherwise, I usually visit 2-3 times more on my own. It’s best to spend a few days up in the Door, but when the weather is just right on a day I’m off from work, don’t be surprised to find me in Fish Creek either buying a pie or going on a hike at Peninsula State Park. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive, so I try to make the best of it when I travel just for the day.
I was able to get my DJI mini 2 drone up for few minutes to capture the color over looking Clark Lake near Jacksonport, WI. The fall colors!!!
On this amazing fall day I had 3 priorities. Visit my favorite quilt shop in Sturgeon Bay (check this blog post), get a home made pie at Lautenbach Orchard Country and capture some photos of fall colors in the door.

Please enjoy the photos I took throughout my day in the Door. The apples are all set to go at Launtenbach! If you haven’t tried a good apple or cherry pie, it’s time for you to make a special trip just to get one. I’ve gone up to the Door just to get a cherry pie from them. As you can see from the selfie, I was happy to pick up a freshly baked cinnamon apple pie…lol. The other selfie is taken over looking the bay in Ephraim up on Eagle Tower at Peninsula State Park. Such a beautiful day. The extreme waves of Lake Michigan were powerful at Cave Point County Park near Jacksonport. A definite must see! The little town in the distance in Ephraim. The best place to experience a sunset up in the Door. And lastly, my favorite quilt shop in Sturgeon Bay - Barn Door Quilts. What a wonderful way to spend the day. It was worth all the time spent in the car driving!
