New Camera on a Hike

Testing my new Insta360 Go 3 on the Green Trail at Pike Lake State Park in Hartford, WI!

After watching some of my favorite YouTube influencers like iJustine and Casey Neistadt and their reviews on the Insta360 Go 3 action camera, I started to think that this might be the kind of camera I could use for my adventures, unboxing videos as a secondary camera and eventually for my sewing and quilting tutorials. I just had to give it a go after several weeks of research and realizing Best Buy offered it at 12 months interest free financing!

I ordered it on Thursday and the FedEx guy out side of my apartment handed it to me Friday. I filmed this test roll hike at Pike Lake on Saturday! Now that’s fast turnaround…lol!

Without getting too “techy”, this action camera isn’t 4K and it only supports internal recording (no SD card slot). I’m good with that at 64gb for what I need this camera to do. It makes up for it with it’s incredible small size and action pod base that you can monitor what the camera is recording both in the pod and out of it. It’s 2.7K resolution and as you can see from this hiking video, it’s pretty impressive. I usually only shoot in 1080p HD which is almost the lowest standard of HD recording. It uses voice commands to start and stop video recording, so if I have the camera mounted on my hat (shown above), I don’t have to touch anything and just go about my adventure with no interruption. That is super awesome for to me with my work! It also has 3 different levels of stabilization. I used the 2nd level, so it still looked like I was on a hike and not holding a steady cam. Not shaky at all. With it being so small, you can mount it virtually anywhere. It also has a back mounted magnet so it can mount anywhere that’s metal. I used that several times during this hike!

As for this video, this will not be the usual for my YouTube channel. I did this to do a camera test and to share a usual hike with me. I have another camera test coming up from Harrington at Quarry Lake as well where I tried a different camera angle and used vivid color. That will come soon on my YouTube channel. However, if you’d like me to share more nature hike videos like this, I will. Just leave a comment below what you think?

Note, the night prior to this hike there were severe storms in the surrounding counties and a few tornadoes. That’s why I kept reacting to all the fallen trees on the trail. Caught me by surprise that it actually cause that much damage.

I do share my Weight Watchers journey toward the middle end of the video. I can’t believe how well it works!

Thanks again everyone for following me on my journey! So much going on personally that the other two videos I’m currently editing keep getting put off. I’m also going on a camping trip to Kohler-Andrae State Park. As I wanted this to be a Quilting Camper retreat, it my just be a personal retreat to disconnect.

Enjoy the video, it’s only 15 min and moves quickly! I also included a few gallery photos as well of the camera in action.

Big hugs,

Scott - The Quilting Camper
